One of the best things about straightening your teeth with Angel Aligners is that they’re so discreet that it can be hard for others to tell you’re wearing them. But at first, many new users may experience not-so-secret side effects like speech difficulties while they’re on. Here’s how you can overcome these obstacles and get used to life with your new orthodontic equipment!

Can Angel Aligners Cause Speech Impediment?

While yes, it’s true that sometimes you can experience a slight speech impediment when pronouncing S’s, D’s, and C’s, the good news is that this is only temporary. Typically, patients who have these difficulties initially only experience them for a few weeks, and with practice, they may go away even faster.

Losing the Lisp

To help speed up the adjustment process, there are a few steps you can take to get used to speaking with your aligners in, including:

  • Speak slowly and enunciate your words. Then gradually speed up as you get more comfortable.
  • Practice reading aloud to yourself.
  • Record yourself speaking so you can hear where you need improvement.
  • Stand straight and maintain good posture while speaking, as this will allow for proper air flow in your larynx.

As with any new habit, the more you speak with your aligners, the easier it will get, so don’t give up on yourself.

Remember, speech challenges with Angel Aligners could potentially occur each time you advance to a new set of trays, but with time learning how to overcome them will make these adjustments easier. In fact, eventually, adapting to speaking with your new trays could take a matter of hours instead of weeks.
